Bacon and Cheese Frittata

Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 6 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  • Preheat the broiler in your oven.
  • In a 10-inch non-stick, oven-safe skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add the diced onion and red bell pepper to the skillet with the bacon and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, until the vegetables are softened.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together 8 eggs, 1/4 cup of milk, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
  • Pour the egg mixture into the skillet with the bacon and vegetables. Cook over medium heat, lifting the edges of the frittata with a spatula to let the uncooked egg flow underneath, until the edges are set but the center is still slightly runny, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the frittata and place the skillet under the broiler. Broil for 2-3 minutes, until the top is golden and the center is set.
  • Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley over the top of the frittata.
  • Slice the frittata into wedges and serve hot. Enjoy!

The Bacon and Cheese Frittata is a classic Italian dish that has gained popularity worldwide. This delectable dish is a savory egg-based creation that is typically filled with crispy bacon, rich cheese, and a variety of fresh vegetables. The history of the frittata dates back to ancient Rome, where it was a common way to make use of leftovers. Today, the Bacon and Cheese Frittata can be found on the menus of many Italian restaurants, especially in regions like Tuscany and Lombardy. Chefs like Lidia Bastianich and Mario Batali have popularized this dish in the United States, and it has become a staple in brunch menus across the country. For the best version of this dish, seek out restaurants that use high-quality, locally-sourced ingredients. The key to a perfect frittata lies in the quality of the eggs, the crispiness of the bacon, and the richness of the cheese. While the classic recipe calls for bacon and cheese, there are also delicious variations that include ingredients like spinach, mushrooms, and sun-dried tomatoes.
