- 6 cups of peeled and sliced apples
- 1 cup of fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- 1 cup of old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine 6 cups of peeled and sliced apples, 1 cup of cranberries, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon of flour, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg. Toss to coat the fruit evenly, then spread the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup of oats, 1/2 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. Stir in 1/2 cup of melted butter until the mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle this topping evenly over the fruit mixture in the baking dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling. Allow the crisp to cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Enjoy!
The Apple Cranberry Crisp is a classic dessert that originated in North America. This delectable dish combines the tartness of cranberries with the sweetness of apples, all topped with a crispy, buttery oat crumble. Chefs in New England are known for perfecting this comforting dessert, using locally sourced apples and cranberries for an authentic flavor. The best version of this dish can be found in cozy, family-owned restaurants in the Northeast, where it's often served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. To make the perfect Apple Cranberry Crisp, it's essential to use ripe, juicy apples and tart cranberries, and to achieve the ideal balance of sweetness and tanginess in the filling. For a unique twist, some chefs add a hint of cinnamon or nutmeg to enhance the flavors.
