Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3-4 tablespoons ice water
- 3 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a food processor, combine 1 1/2 cups of flour, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add the ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and pulse until the dough comes together.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and shape it into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch tart pan. Press the dough into the bottom and up the sides of the pan. Trim any excess dough. Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork and line with parchment paper. Fill with pie weights or dried beans. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove the parchment paper and weights, then bake for an additional 5 minutes. Set aside to cool.
- In a bowl, toss the sliced apples with 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg. Arrange the apple slices in the cooled tart crust. Sprinkle the sliced almonds on top.
- Bake the tart for 20-25 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown. Allow to cool slightly.
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 2-3 tablespoons of milk to make the cinnamon glaze. Drizzle the glaze over the warm tart.
- Slice and serve the apple and almond tart with cinnamon glaze. Enjoy!
The Apple and Almond Tart with Cinnamon Glaze is a delectable dessert that has its roots in traditional French and American baking. This delightful tart features a buttery, flaky crust filled with a luscious almond cream and topped with thinly sliced, caramelized apples. The tart is then finished with a sweet and aromatic cinnamon glaze, adding a warm and spicy kick to the overall flavor profile. Renowned chefs like Julia Child and Martha Stewart have popularized this classic dessert, and it has become a staple in many upscale patisseries and bakeries across France and the United States. The combination of sweet, tart apples and nutty almond cream, complemented by the warm notes of cinnamon, creates a truly irresistible treat. For the best version of this dish, one must ensure that the apples are thinly sliced and perfectly caramelized to achieve a tender yet slightly crisp texture. Additionally, the almond cream should be rich and velvety, providing a luxurious contrast to the tartness of the apples. When it comes to the cinnamon glaze, a delicate balance of sweetness and spice is key to elevating the overall taste experience. While the traditional method of making this tart involves baking it in the oven, some chefs have experimented with alternative techniques such as grilling or even smoking the apples to add a unique twist to the flavor profile. These innovative approaches have garnered attention in the culinary world, offering a fresh take on this beloved dessert. Today, the Apple and Almond Tart with Cinnamon Glaze can be savored in esteemed patisseries in Paris, where the art of pastry-making is celebrated with utmost reverence. In the United States, renowned bakeries in cities like New York and San Francisco are known for their exceptional renditions of this timeless dessert. Whether enjoyed on its own or paired with a dollop of vanilla ice cream, this tart continues to captivate dessert enthusiasts with its harmonious blend of flavors and textures.
