Classic American Breakfast

Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bacon
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons of melted butter
  • Butter and maple syrup for serving

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, cook 4 slices of bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Keep the bacon fat in the skillet for cooking the eggs.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup of flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of milk, 1 large egg, and 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes.
  • While the pancake batter is resting, crack 4 large eggs into the skillet with the bacon fat and cook to your desired doneness.
  • Heat a non-stick griddle or skillet over medium heat and lightly grease with butter. Pour 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake onto the griddle and cook until bubbles form on the surface. Flip and cook until golden brown on the other side. Repeat with the remaining batter.
  • Serve the pancakes with the cooked bacon, eggs, and a pat of butter. Drizzle with maple syrup and enjoy!
Breakfast
American

The history of American breakfast dates back to the early settlers who brought their traditional morning meals from Europe. Over time, it evolved to include a variety of dishes such as pancakes, waffles, bacon, eggs, and hash browns. In the 19th century, chefs like Antoine Alciatore of New Orleans' Antoine's Restaurant and Delmonico's in New York City popularized luxurious breakfast spreads. Today, American breakfast varies by region, with the South known for its hearty biscuits and gravy, the Midwest for its corned beef hash, and the West Coast for its avocado toast. The best American breakfast can be found in diners and cafes across the country, where classics like fluffy pancakes and crispy bacon are served with a side of nostalgia. For a twist, try the Southern favorite, chicken and waffles, or the Tex-Mex inspired breakfast burrito. Whether it's a simple plate of scrambled eggs or a lavish brunch buffet, American breakfast is a beloved tradition that continues to bring people together every morning.
