Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 4 veal cutlets
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup of Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup of marinara sauce
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
- Pound the veal cutlets to 1/4-inch thickness and season with salt and pepper.
- Dredge the veal cutlets in the flour, then dip into the beaten eggs, and coat with the Italian seasoned breadcrumbs mixed with 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the breaded veal cutlets and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 3 minutes per side. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
- Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce in the bottom of a baking dish. Place the browned veal cutlets on top of the sauce. Spoon additional marinara sauce over each cutlet.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese and remaining 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese over the veal cutlets.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving. Enjoy your extra cheesy veal parmigiana!
Veal Parmigiana, also known as Veal Parmesan, is a classic Italian-American dish that has become a staple in many restaurants and homes. This delectable dish consists of tender veal cutlets, breaded and fried to golden perfection, then smothered in rich marinara sauce and topped with a generous amount of melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. The origins of Veal Parmigiana can be traced back to Southern Italy, where it was traditionally made with eggplant instead of veal. However, Italian immigrants in the United States adapted the recipe, using veal as the main ingredient. Today, this dish can be found on menus across the country, with notable variations from renowned chefs and restaurants. For the best Veal Parmigiana experience, seek out establishments that use high-quality veal and a flavorful marinara sauce. The key to achieving the perfect Veal Parmigiana lies in the balance of crispy breading, tender veal, savory sauce, and gooey melted cheese. Some chefs also add a sprinkle of fresh basil or parsley for a burst of freshness. Whether enjoyed as a comforting family meal or a special dining experience, Veal Parmigiana with extra cheese is a true crowd-pleaser.
