The history of Vampire Steak with garlic and herb butter dates back to the 19th century in Eastern Europe, where it was believed that the combination of garlic and herbs could ward off vampires. This dish gained popularity in the United States during the 20th century, particularly in regions with a strong European influence such as New Orleans and New York City. Renowned chefs like Emeril Lagasse and Mario Batali have put their own spin on this classic dish, incorporating local flavors and ingredients. Today, the best version of this dish can be found in upscale steakhouses and fine dining restaurants, where the quality of the steak and the richness of the garlic and herb butter are paramount. The key to making this dish shine is using high-quality, well-marbled steak and infusing the butter with a generous amount of fresh garlic and fragrant herbs like rosemary and thyme. For a famous alternative method, some chefs also recommend marinating the steak in a garlic and herb mixture before grilling to enhance the flavors even further.
