Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup farro
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
  • Add the chicken breasts to the skillet and cook for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
  • Stir in the farro, diced tomatoes, chicken broth, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the farro is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
  • Return the cooked chicken to the skillet, nestling it into the farro mixture. Cook for an additional 5 minutes to heat the chicken through.
  • Sprinkle the crumbled feta cheese over the skillet and serve hot. Enjoy!

The Tuscan Chicken and Farro Skillet is a rustic Italian dish that combines tender chicken, nutty farro, and a medley of flavorful vegetables. This hearty one-pan meal has its roots in the Tuscan region of Italy, where chefs have been perfecting the art of simple yet delicious cooking for centuries. The addition of feta cheese adds a tangy and creamy element to the dish, elevating its flavors to new heights. The best version of this dish can be found in authentic Italian trattorias in Tuscany, where local chefs use the freshest ingredients and traditional cooking techniques to bring out the true essence of the dish. The key to making this dish shine is to use high-quality ingredients, such as ripe tomatoes, fragrant basil, and savory feta cheese. The feta cheese adds a delightful contrast to the rich flavors of the chicken and farro, making each bite a symphony of tastes and textures. For a unique twist on this classic recipe, some chefs also incorporate olives, sun-dried tomatoes, or artichoke hearts to add even more depth to the dish. Whether enjoyed in a cozy Tuscan restaurant or recreated at home, the Tuscan Chicken and Farro Skillet with a sprinkle of feta cheese is a delightful and satisfying meal that captures the essence of Italian comfort food.
