Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 4 slices of sourdough bread
- 4 slices of roasted turkey breast
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese
- 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
Instructions
- Preheat a panini press or a grill pan over medium heat.
- In a small bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard and 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise.
- Lay out the 4 slices of sourdough bread. Spread the Dijon-mayo mixture on each slice.
- Place 2 slices of Swiss cheese on 2 of the bread slices, then add 2 slices of roasted turkey breast on top of the cheese. Top with the remaining 2 slices of Swiss cheese and the other 2 slices of bread.
- Spread 1/2 tablespoon of unsalted butter on the top and bottom of each sandwich.
- Place the sandwiches on the preheated panini press or grill pan. If using a grill pan, place a heavy skillet on top of the sandwiches to press them down.
- Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Remove from the panini press or grill pan, slice in half, and serve hot. Enjoy!
The Turkey and Swiss Panini is a classic grilled sandwich that originated in Italy. It gained popularity in the United States as a beloved lunchtime option. The combination of tender turkey, flavorful Swiss cheese, and crispy bread makes it a satisfying choice for any meal. Chefs in regions like Tuscany and Lombardy are known for their expertise in crafting the perfect panini, using locally sourced ingredients and traditional techniques. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in artisanal delis and cafes that prioritize quality ingredients and expert grilling. The key to a great Turkey and Swiss Panini lies in the quality of the turkey, the melting of the Swiss cheese, and the toasting of the bread to achieve the perfect crunch. For a twist, some chefs add ingredients like cranberry sauce or arugula to elevate the flavors. Whether enjoyed in a quaint Italian bistro or a bustling New York City eatery, the Turkey and Swiss Panini continues to be a beloved choice for sandwich enthusiasts.
