Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 cup chopped almonds
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the melted butter, milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
- In the meantime, prepare the nut filling by mixing the chopped walnuts, almonds, honey, and ground cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal parts.
- Roll out each part into a rectangle and spread the nut filling evenly over the surface of each rectangle.
- Roll up each rectangle tightly, tucking in the ends, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cover the loaves with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30-40 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the loaves for 30-40 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Allow the Tsoureki to cool before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
