Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, drained and cubed
- 2 cups of broccoli florets
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon of ginger, minced
- 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon of sriracha sauce
- 1 teaspoon of cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup of water
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooked rice for serving
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of hoisin sauce, 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon of sriracha sauce, and 1 teaspoon of cornstarch. Set aside.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the cubed tofu and cook until golden brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and ginger, and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the broccoli florets to the skillet and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until they are tender-crisp.
- Return the cooked tofu to the skillet and pour the prepared sauce over the tofu and broccoli. Stir well to coat everything in the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the tofu and broccoli.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the tofu and broccoli in spicy garlic sauce over cooked rice. Enjoy!
Tofu and Broccoli in Spicy Garlic Sauce is a popular dish in Chinese cuisine, known for its bold flavors and healthy ingredients. Originating in the Sichuan province of China, this dish has a rich history dating back centuries. It was traditionally prepared by skilled chefs in Sichuanese restaurants, using locally sourced tofu and fresh broccoli, combined with a spicy garlic sauce made from a blend of chili peppers, garlic, and other aromatic spices. Today, this dish can be found in Chinese restaurants worldwide, with variations in the level of spiciness and the use of additional ingredients such as bell peppers, mushrooms, or water chestnuts. The key to a perfect Tofu and Broccoli in Spicy Garlic Sauce lies in the balance of flavors, with the tofu absorbing the spicy sauce while the broccoli adds a crisp texture.
