The stuffed burger, also known as the "juicy lucy," originated in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the 1950s. Two bars, Matt's Bar and the 5-8 Club, both claim to have invented this iconic dish. The concept is simple yet ingenious - stuff the patty with cheese or other fillings before grilling, creating a molten, flavorful center. Today, the stuffed burger has become a staple in American cuisine, with variations ranging from classic cheddar to gourmet combinations like blue cheese and caramelized onions. For the best-stuffed burger experience, head to Minneapolis and try it at the two rival bars, or experiment with different fillings and cooking methods at home.
