Szechuan Beef with Broccoli

Ingredients
- 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp Szechuan peppercorns
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
- Sliced green onions and sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup hoisin sauce, 2 tbsp rice vinegar, 2 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tbsp cornstarch, and 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes. Set aside.
- In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil over high heat. Add the sliced flank steak and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- Add the remaining 1 tbsp of vegetable oil to the skillet. Stir in 3 cloves of minced garlic and 1 tbsp of Szechuan peppercorns. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the broccoli florets and sliced red bell pepper to the skillet. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Return the cooked beef to the skillet. Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and vegetables. Stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and vegetables.
- Drizzle 1 tsp of sesame oil over the stir-fry and toss to combine.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
- Serve the Szechuan beef with broccoli over steamed rice or noodles. Enjoy!
