American

Sweet potato pie has a rich history dating back to the 18th century in the southern United States. This beloved dessert is a staple of Southern cuisine, with its roots in African and Native American culinary traditions. The pie features a creamy, spiced sweet potato filling in a flaky crust, often topped with whipped cream or pecans. Notable chefs and restaurants, such as Sylvia's in Harlem, have put their own spin on this classic dish, adding to its popularity. Today, the best sweet potato pie can be found in soul food restaurants across the South, where the key to a perfect pie lies in the balance of spices and the quality of the sweet potatoes.
