Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup lingonberry sauce
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef, 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs, 1/4 cup of milk, 1/4 cup of finely chopped onion, 1 egg, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg. Mix until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
- In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sprinkle 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour over the remaining drippings. Cook and stir for 1 minute. Gradually add 1 1/2 cups of beef broth and 1/2 cup of heavy cream, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
- Serve the Swedish meatballs with lingonberry sauce drizzled on top and garnish with fresh parsley. Enjoy!
Swedish meatballs with lingonberry sauce have a rich history dating back to the 18th century. This iconic dish is a staple of Swedish cuisine, known for its savory, tender meatballs and the sweet-tart flavor of lingonberry sauce. Chefs in Sweden, such as Tore Wretman, have popularized this dish, making it a must-try for visitors. The best version of this dish can be found in traditional Swedish restaurants in Stockholm, where the meatballs are made with a blend of ground beef and pork, seasoned with nutmeg and allspice. Lingonberry sauce, a crucial accompaniment, adds a delightful contrast to the savory meatballs.
