Spicy Buffalo Chicken Tenders
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 lb chicken tenders
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 cup hot sauce
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, mix together 1 cup of flour, 1 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of black pepper, 1 tsp of garlic powder, 1 tsp of paprika, and 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper.
- Dredge the chicken tenders in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken tenders in batches for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of hot sauce, 1/4 cup of unsalted butter, 1 tbsp of honey, and 1/2 tsp of Worcestershire sauce. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the butter is melted and the sauce is well combined.
- Dip the fried chicken tenders into the buffalo sauce, ensuring they are fully coated. Place them on a serving platter and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce and celery sticks.
Spicy Buffalo Chicken Tenders have a rich history that dates back to the 1960s in Buffalo, New York. This iconic dish is said to have been created by Teressa Bellissimo at the Anchor Bar, who deep-fried leftover chicken wings and tossed them in a spicy cayenne pepper hot sauce. The dish quickly gained popularity and has since become a staple in American cuisine. Today, the best versions of this dish can still be found in Buffalo, where chefs take pride in perfecting the crispy, spicy tenders and serving them with a side of cool, creamy blue cheese dressing. The key to getting this dish right lies in the perfect balance of heat and tanginess in the sauce, as well as achieving a crispy, golden-brown coating on the chicken tenders. While the traditional recipe calls for deep-frying, some chefs have also experimented with alternative methods such as air-frying or baking to cater to health-conscious diners. Whether enjoyed as an appetizer, snack, or main course, Spicy Buffalo Chicken Tenders continue to be a beloved dish that satisfies cravings for bold flavors and comforting, finger-licking goodness.
