Mexican

Sopapillas are a traditional fried pastry hailing from New Mexico, with roots in Native American and Hispanic cultures. The dough is typically made with flour, baking powder, salt, and water, then fried until golden and puffy. Sopapillas are often served as a sweet treat, drizzled with honey or sprinkled with powdered sugar, but they can also be enjoyed with savory fillings. This delectable dessert has become a staple in Southwestern cuisine, with many restaurants in New Mexico and neighboring states offering their own unique take on this beloved dish. For the best sopapillas, seek out authentic New Mexican eateries where skilled chefs craft these pillowy pastries to perfection.
