The exact origins of the dish are debated, but it is believed to have been popularized in the 1930s. The sandwich typically consists of ground beef, onions, tomato sauce, and seasonings, served on a hamburger bun. Some variations include additional ingredients like bell peppers or hot sauce for an extra kick. The name "Sloppy Joe" is said to have originated from a bar in Key West, Florida, where a cook named Joe created the messy, yet delicious, sandwich.
