Instructions

  • In a large pot, cook 2 pounds of ground beef over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
  • Add 2 cups of chopped onions and 4 cloves of minced garlic to the pot. Cook until onions are tender.
  • Stir in 2 cups of beef broth, 1 can of tomato sauce, 2 tablespoons of chili powder, 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of ground cumin, 1/2 teaspoon of ground allspice, 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper, 1/4 teaspoon of ground red pepper, and 1 bay leaf.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
