Seven Layer Bars, also known as Magic Bars, originated in the United States in the mid-20th century. This classic dessert is a favorite at potlucks, bake sales, and family gatherings. The bars are made by layering graham cracker crumbs, sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, shredded coconut, and chopped nuts, then baking until golden and gooey. The exact origins of the recipe are unclear, but it gained popularity in the 1960s and has been a beloved treat ever since. Chefs and home bakers across the country have put their own spin on the classic recipe, adding ingredients like caramel, toffee, or peanut butter chips. Today, the best versions of Seven Layer Bars can be found in cozy bakeries and nostalgic diners, where they are often served alongside a cup of coffee or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The key to a perfect Seven Layer Bar lies in the balance of sweet and crunchy layers, with each bite offering a symphony of flavors and textures.
