Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, pressed and cubed
- 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
- 1/4 cup of soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons of sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 1 tablespoon of grated ginger
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 head of broccoli, cut into florets
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds
- Cooked rice, for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, toss the cubed tofu with 2 tablespoons of cornstarch until evenly coated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of sesame oil, 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar, 2 tablespoons of honey, grated ginger, and minced garlic to make the sauce.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the tofu and cook until golden and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the broccoli and carrots, and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp.
- Return the tofu to the skillet, and pour the sauce over the tofu and vegetables. Stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until everything is coated in the sauce and heated through.
- Sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve the sesame tofu stir-fry over cooked rice. Enjoy!
Sesame Tofu Stir-fry with Broccoli and Carrots is a popular and healthy dish that originated in East Asia, particularly in China and Japan. This flavorful stir-fry has gained popularity in Western countries due to its delicious combination of crispy tofu, fresh broccoli, and sweet carrots, all coated in a savory sesame sauce. Renowned chefs like Ming Tsai and Nobu Matsuhisa have put their own spin on this classic dish, incorporating their unique culinary styles and techniques. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in authentic Asian restaurants that prioritize using fresh, high-quality ingredients and traditional cooking methods. The key to a perfect Sesame Tofu Stir-fry lies in achieving the ideal balance of flavors and textures, with the tofu being crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the vegetables retaining their natural crunch. It's important to get the sesame sauce just right, as it's the soul of this dish, infusing it with a rich umami flavor. While the classic recipe calls for stir-frying, some chefs also recommend alternative methods such as baking or air-frying the tofu for a healthier twist.
