  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt flakes

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, 1 3/4 cups of sugar, 3/4 cup of cocoa powder, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
  • Add 2 eggs, 1 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of vegetable oil, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  • Stir in 1 cup of boiling water. The batter will be thin, but that's okay.

  • Carefully pour in 1/2 cup of heavy cream while stirring. Continue to cook and stir for another 2 minutes until smooth.
  • Remove from heat and let the caramel sauce cool for about 20 minutes, then pour over the cooled chocolate cake layers.
  • Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of sea salt flakes over the caramel topping.
  • Slice and serve the salted caramel chocolate cake with sea salt flakes. Enjoy!
