Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Gel food coloring in assorted colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together 3 cups of flour, 2 cups of sugar, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
- Add 1 cup of softened butter, 4 eggs, 1 cup of milk, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Divide the batter evenly into 6 small bowls. Add a different color of gel food coloring to each bowl and mix until the batter is evenly colored.
- Spoon a small amount of each colored batter into the prepared cake pans, creating a rainbow swirl pattern.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once the cakes are completely cool, stack them on top of each other with a layer of frosting between each cake. Frost the top and sides of the cake with your favorite frosting.
