Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 hamburger buns
- 1 cup pimento cheese spread
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 4 tomato slices
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
- In a large bowl, mix together 1 pound of ground beef, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties.
- Brush the hamburger buns with vegetable oil and place them on the grill, cut side down. Toast for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned. Remove from the grill and set aside.
- Place the burger patties on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
- During the last minute of cooking, top each patty with 1/4 cup of pimento cheese spread and allow it to melt slightly.
- Spread mayonnaise on the bottom half of each toasted bun, then add a lettuce leaf and a tomato slice. Place the pimento cheese-topped burger patty on top, then spread ketchup on the top half of the bun and place it on the patty to complete the burger.
- Serve the pimento cheese burgers immediately and enjoy!
The pimento cheese burger has a rich history rooted in the southern United States. Originating in the early 20th century, this iconic dish features a juicy burger patty topped with a generous serving of creamy pimento cheese. Renowned chefs like Sean Brock and Ashley Christensen have elevated this classic by incorporating their own unique twists, drawing inspiration from traditional southern flavors. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in renowned southern eateries such as Husk in Charleston, South Carolina, and Poole's Diner in Raleigh, North Carolina. The key to a perfect pimento cheese burger lies in the quality of the pimento cheese, which should be rich, tangy, and perfectly complement the savory burger patty. For a unique twist, some chefs also incorporate ingredients like bacon or pickled jalapenos to add an extra layer of flavor. Whether enjoyed at a rustic diner or a high-end restaurant, the pimento cheese burger continues to be a beloved staple in southern cuisine.
