Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 12 hard-boiled eggs, peeled
  • 2 cups white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons pickling spice
  • 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of white vinegar, 1/2 cup of water, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of pickling spice, 2 teaspoons of red pepper flakes, 1 teaspoon of black peppercorns, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Reduce the heat and simmer the pickling liquid for 5 minutes. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the liquid cool to room temperature.
  • Place the peeled hard-boiled eggs in a large glass jar or container. Carefully pour the cooled pickling liquid over the eggs, making sure they are completely submerged. Cover the jar or container with a lid and refrigerate for at least 24 hours to allow the eggs to pickle and absorb the spicy flavors.
  • Once pickled, the spicy pickled eggs can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Serve as a spicy snack or add to salads for an extra kick.

Pickled eggs have been a beloved snack for centuries, but the addition of spicy flavors has taken this classic dish to a whole new level. The history of pickled eggs can be traced back to ancient Rome, where they were a popular bar snack. Fast forward to modern times, and chefs and home cooks alike have been experimenting with adding spicy ingredients like jalapenos, hot sauce, and chili peppers to the pickling brine, creating a fiery twist on this traditional treat. In the southern United States, particularly in regions known for their love of bold flavors like Louisiana and Texas, spicy pickled eggs have become a staple in many bars and restaurants. Chefs in these areas often use a combination of vinegar, sugar, and a variety of hot peppers to create a brine that infuses the eggs with a fiery kick. One famous alternative method for making spicy pickled eggs involves using a brine that includes ingredients like apple cider vinegar, red pepper flakes, and a touch of honey for sweetness. This combination creates a tangy and spicy flavor profile that pairs perfectly with the creamy texture of the eggs. When it comes to making the best spicy pickled eggs, getting the balance of heat and acidity just right is crucial. The eggs should be pickled for at least a few days to allow the flavors to fully develop, resulting in a mouthwatering snack that packs a punch. Whether enjoyed on their own or as part of a charcuterie board, spicy pickled eggs are a delicious and addictive treat for those who crave a little heat with their snacks.
