Ingredients
- 1 cup of unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 cup of milk
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons of milk
- 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract
- Food coloring (optional)
- Assorted decorations (edible flowers, sprinkles, etc.)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup of butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in 4 eggs, one at a time, then stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Combine 2 cups of flour and 1/4 teaspoon of salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture, alternating with 1/4 cup of milk. Mix until just blended.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1 cup of powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons of milk, and 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract to make the glaze. Add food coloring if desired.
- Cut the cooled cake into small squares or rectangles.
- Dip each cake piece into the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off, then decorate with assorted decorations.
