Instructions

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the penne pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add the broccoli florets to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until they are bright green and slightly tender.
  • Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the broccoli is cooked to your liking.
  • Add the cooked sausage and penne pasta to the skillet. Toss everything together and cook for 1-2 minutes to heat through.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the pasta and toss to combine.
  • Serve the penne with sausage and broccoli hot, garnished with additional Parmesan cheese if desired.
