Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 slices of rye bread
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix 1/2 pound of ground beef with 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon of butter and sauté 1/2 thinly sliced onion until caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.
  • Spread the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice of rye bread. Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet. Top each slice with a slice of Swiss cheese, a cooked beef patty, caramelized onions, and another slice of Swiss cheese. Place the remaining bread slices on top, buttered side up.
  • Cook the sandwiches for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  • Slice the sandwiches in half and serve hot. Enjoy your Swiss Cheese Patty Melt!
