Patty Melt

Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices of rye bread
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of butter

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix 1/2 pound of ground beef with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. Divide the mixture into 2 equal portions and shape them into patties.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the thinly sliced onion and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the onions are caramelized, about 10 minutes. Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.
  • Spread 1/2 tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice of rye bread. Place 2 slices of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet. Top each slice with a slice of Swiss cheese, a beef patty, caramelized onions, and another slice of Swiss cheese. Place the remaining bread slices on top, buttered side up.
  • Cook the sandwiches over medium heat for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  • Slice the patty melts in half and serve hot. Enjoy!
