Ingredients
- 4 salmon fillets (6 ounces each)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 cup fresh chopped parsley
- 1 lemon, cut into wedges
Instructions
- Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides with 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of paprika.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully place the seasoned salmon fillets in the skillet, skin-side down.
- Cook the salmon for 4-5 minutes without moving, until the skin is crispy and the salmon easily releases from the pan.
- Carefully flip the salmon fillets and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked to your desired level of doneness.
- Remove the salmon from the skillet and transfer to a serving plate.
- Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges on the side.
- Enjoy your delicious pan-seared salmon!
Pan-seared salmon is a popular dish that has its roots in traditional cooking methods. The technique of searing salmon in a hot pan creates a crispy exterior while keeping the inside tender and moist. This method of cooking has been embraced by chefs and home cooks alike for its simplicity and delicious results. The dish has become a staple in many restaurants, particularly in coastal regions where fresh seafood is abundant. Chefs often highlight the natural flavors of the salmon with simple seasonings like salt, pepper, and fresh herbs. Today, some of the best versions of this dish can be found in renowned seafood restaurants along the coast, where the quality of the fish is paramount. The key to a perfect pan-seared salmon lies in using high-quality, fresh salmon and achieving the ideal balance of crispy skin and tender flesh. While traditional pan-searing is the classic method, alternative techniques such as sous vide cooking followed by a quick sear have gained popularity for achieving precise doneness and texture.
