Pan-Seared Halibut with Lemon Butter Sauce
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 4 halibut fillets (6 ounces each)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
- 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- Season the halibut fillets with salt and pepper on both sides.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the halibut fillets to the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the fillets from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant.
- Pour in the chicken broth and lemon juice, stirring to combine. Cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to reduce slightly.
- Return the halibut fillets to the skillet, spooning the lemon butter sauce over the top. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to heat the fish through.
- Sprinkle the chopped parsley over the halibut fillets before serving.
- Serve the pan-seared halibut with lemon butter sauce immediately, and enjoy!
The history of Pan-Seared Halibut with Lemon Butter Sauce can be traced back to the coastal regions of North America, where halibut is abundant. This dish has become a staple in seafood restaurants, with chefs putting their own unique spin on the classic recipe. The delicate, flaky texture of halibut pairs perfectly with the tangy and rich flavors of the lemon butter sauce, creating a harmonious and indulgent dining experience. The key to a perfect Pan-Seared Halibut with Lemon Butter Sauce lies in the freshness of the fish and the balance of flavors in the sauce. Today, some of the best versions of this dish can be found in upscale seafood restaurants along the Pacific Northwest coast, where halibut is caught fresh and prepared with expert care. The most important elements to get right in this dish are the searing of the halibut to achieve a crispy exterior while maintaining a tender interior, and the emulsification of the lemon butter sauce to create a velvety texture that complements the fish. For a twist on the classic recipe, some chefs also incorporate herbs like thyme or dill into the lemon butter sauce for added depth of flavor.
