Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup of softened butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until smooth. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, 3/4 cup of cocoa powder, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with 1/4 cup of milk. Mix until well combined.
- Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Roll each ball in powdered sugar to coat and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the cookies are set. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Enjoy your homemade Oreo cookies!
Oreo cookies were first introduced by the National Biscuit Company (now Nabisco) in 1912. These iconic sandwich cookies consist of two chocolate wafers with a sweet cream filling. The name "Oreo" is believed to have been derived from the French word "or," meaning gold, a common color of early Oreo packaging. Over the years, Oreo cookies have become a beloved treat worldwide, with various limited-edition flavors and spin-off products. The classic Oreo cookie remains a staple in the snack world, and its popularity has led to numerous recipes and desserts featuring Oreo cookies, such as Oreo cheesecake and Oreo milkshakes. Today, Oreo cookies are a timeless indulgence enjoyed by people of all ages.
