Orange Almond Cake

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups of flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
- In a separate large bowl, cream 1 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of softened butter until light and fluffy.
- Beat in 2 eggs, one at a time, then stir in 1/2 cup of milk, 1/4 cup of fresh orange juice, 1 tablespoon of orange zest, and 1 teaspoon of almond extract.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Sprinkle 1/2 cup of sliced almonds evenly over the top of the batter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
