Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix the ground beef with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper. Form the mixture into 4 patties.
  • Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until desired doneness. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
  • In a separate pan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for 10-15 minutes, or until caramelized. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • In the same pan, add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until softened and browned. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on the bottom half of each hamburger bun. Place a lettuce leaf and a tomato slice on top of the mayonnaise.
  • Place a cooked patty with melted Swiss cheese on top of the tomato slice. Divide the caramelized onions and sautéed mushrooms evenly among the patties.
