Mulled wine has a rich history dating back to ancient Rome, where it was enjoyed as a warm, spiced beverage. The tradition spread throughout Europe, with each region adding its own unique blend of spices and ingredients. In medieval times, mulled wine was a popular drink among the upper class, often served at lavish feasts and banquets. Today, it is a beloved holiday tradition, enjoyed at Christmas markets and cozy gatherings. Chefs and restaurants around the world put their own spin on this classic drink, with variations featuring cinnamon, cloves, orange peel, and a splash of brandy. For the best mulled wine experience, visit the Christmas markets in Germany or Austria, where the aroma of spices fills the air and the warm, comforting drink is served in festive mugs. To make the perfect mulled wine at home, be sure to use a good quality red wine, and don't skimp on the spices.
