Prosciutto-Wrapped Mozzarella and Sun-Dried Tomato Stuffed Chicken Breast
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup of chopped sun-dried tomatoes
- 8 slices of prosciutto
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
- Using a sharp knife, carefully slice a pocket into the side of each chicken breast, being careful not to cut all the way through.
- In a small bowl, mix together the mozzarella cheese and sun-dried tomatoes. Stuff each chicken breast with the cheese and tomato mixture, then season the outside of the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
- Wrap each stuffed chicken breast with 2 slices of prosciutto, making sure to cover the entire breast.
- In a large oven-safe skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the stuffed and wrapped chicken breasts to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the prosciutto is crispy and the chicken is golden brown.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
The Mozzarella and Sun-Dried Tomato Stuffed Chicken Breast wrapped in prosciutto is a classic Italian dish that combines the flavors of tender chicken, gooey mozzarella, tangy sun-dried tomatoes, and savory prosciutto. This dish has its roots in the Campania region of Italy, where it is a staple in many traditional Italian restaurants. The dish is believed to have been created by skilled Italian chefs who wanted to elevate the flavors of a simple chicken breast by adding the richness of mozzarella and the intense sweetness of sun-dried tomatoes, all wrapped in the luxurious saltiness of prosciutto. Today, this dish can be found in many Italian restaurants around the world, but for the most authentic experience, it's best to visit the Campania region where the dish originated. The key to making this dish shine is using high-quality ingredients, especially the mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, and prosciutto. The best version of this dish exists in restaurants that source their ingredients from local producers in Italy, ensuring the authenticity and freshness of the flavors. Alternatively, a famous alternative method for making this dish is to grill the chicken breast instead of baking it, adding a smoky flavor to the dish. Whether baked or grilled, this dish is a true celebration of Italian flavors and culinary expertise.
