American

Mashed potatoes have been a beloved comfort food for centuries, with their origins traced back to the 1700s in Europe. The dish gained popularity in the United States in the 1800s and has since become a staple in American cuisine. Chefs like Julia Child and Gordon Ramsay have popularized the dish, each adding their own unique twist. In the Southern United States, mashed potatoes are often served with creamy gravy, while in the Northeast, they are a common side dish for roast turkey. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in classic American diners and high-end steakhouses, where the key to perfection lies in using high-quality potatoes and plenty of butter and cream. For a unique twist, some chefs incorporate roasted garlic or herbs for added flavor.
