Ingredients
- 2 cups of water
- 1 cup of milk
- 2 tablespoons of loose black tea leaves
- 4 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 whole cloves
- 1 inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced
- 2-3 tablespoons of sugar
Instructions
- In a saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
- Add the crushed cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, cloves, and sliced ginger to the boiling water.
- Allow the spices to simmer in the water for 5 minutes to infuse the flavor.
- Add 2 tablespoons of loose black tea leaves to the spiced water and let it simmer for 2 minutes.
- Pour in 1 cup of milk and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.
- Add 2-3 tablespoons of sugar, or adjust to taste, and simmer for an additional 2 minutes.
- Strain the masala chai into cups and serve hot.
