Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup of warm water
  • 1 tablespoon of active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1/4 cup of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
  • 4 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup of warm water and 1 tablespoon of active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, 1/2 cup of milk, 1/4 cup of melted unsalted butter, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1 beaten egg.
  • Gradually add 3 cups of all-purpose flour to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut the dough into rectangular bars and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bars for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Let them cool on a wire rack.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together 1 cup of powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of maple syrup to make the glaze. Dip the cooled bars into the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off.
  • Sprinkle the tops of the maple bars with the cooked and crumbled bacon bits. Allow the glaze to set before serving. Enjoy your delicious maple bacon bars!

The history of the Maple Bar with bacon bits on top can be traced back to the Pacific Northwest, where the love for maple and bacon flavors runs deep. This delectable treat combines the sweetness of maple glaze with the savory crunch of bacon bits, creating a perfect balance of flavors. Chefs in Portland and Seattle have been known to experiment with this indulgent combination, adding their own unique twists to the classic maple bar. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in artisanal bakeries and trendy brunch spots across the region. The key to getting it right lies in the quality of the maple glaze and the crispy, smoky bacon bits. For a fun alternative, some chefs incorporate candied bacon or maple-infused bacon into the recipe, elevating the dish to new heights of indulgence. Whether you're a fan of sweet and savory flavor combinations or simply love the irresistible allure of bacon, the Maple Bar with bacon bits on top is a must-try for any food enthusiast.
