Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, combine 1/4 cup of flour, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. Dredge the shrimp in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook for 2 minutes on each side, or until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Pour in the chicken broth, lemon juice, chopped parsley, and red pepper flakes. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss to coat them in the lemon garlic butter sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the shrimp are heated through.
- Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the shrimp scampi and stir to combine. Remove the skillet from the heat.
- Serve the lemon garlic butter shrimp scampi immediately, garnished with additional chopped parsley and lemon wedges if desired. Enjoy!
Lemon Garlic Butter Shrimp Scampi is a classic Italian-American dish that has become a favorite in seafood cuisine. The dish originated in the coastal regions of Italy, where fresh shrimp and aromatic garlic were abundant. It was later popularized in the United States, particularly in Italian restaurants in New York City and San Francisco. Renowned chefs like Lidia Bastianich and Mario Batali have put their own spin on this dish, adding their unique flair to the traditional recipe. The key to a perfect Shrimp Scampi lies in the quality of the ingredients, especially the freshness of the shrimp and the balance of flavors in the lemon, garlic, and butter sauce. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in authentic Italian restaurants that prioritize using fresh, high-quality ingredients. The dish is best served with al dente pasta or crusty bread to soak up the flavorful sauce. For a twist on the classic recipe, some chefs also incorporate white wine or red pepper flakes for added depth of flavor. Whether enjoyed in a cozy trattoria or prepared at home, Lemon Garlic Butter Shrimp Scampi is a delightful dish that captures the essence of Italian coastal cuisine.
