Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
- 1 1/4 cups of unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 3/4 cup of water
- 1 cup of granulated sugar, plus extra for rolling
- 1 cup of chocolate chips
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix 2 1/4 cups of flour and 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt. Add the cold butter pieces and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add the water and mix until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 12-cup muffin tin with butter and sprinkle with granulated sugar.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a large rectangle. Sprinkle 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of chocolate chips over the dough. Fold the dough into thirds, like a letter, then roll it out again into a large rectangle.
- Cut the dough into 12 equal squares. Place each square into the prepared muffin tin, pressing down gently.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the Kouign Amann is golden brown and crispy.
- Allow to cool for 5 minutes in the tin, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy the chocolate chip Kouign Amann warm or at room temperature.
