  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • 1 cup kimchi, chopped
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix together 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 2 tbsp sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Add the sliced beef and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the marinated beef for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your desired doneness. Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing into thin strips.
  • In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the cooked white rice and chopped kimchi. Stir-fry for 5-7 minutes until the rice is heated through and slightly crispy.
  • Push the kimchi fried rice to one side of the skillet and add the remaining 1 tbsp of vegetable oil to the empty side. Crack in the eggs and scramble until just set. Mix the eggs into the fried rice.
  • Stir in the gochujang and chopped green onions into the fried rice. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Serve the grilled Korean BBQ beef alongside the kimchi fried rice. Enjoy!

Korean BBQ beef, a beloved dish, has a rich history rooted in Korean culinary traditions. The succulent beef is marinated in a flavorful blend of soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and other seasonings, then grilled to perfection. The dish is often accompanied by kimchi fried rice, a delicious and spicy twist on the classic fried rice. This iconic pairing showcases the harmony of sweet and savory flavors, with the tender beef complementing the tangy and spicy notes of the kimchi fried rice. Renowned Korean chefs, such as Chef David Chang, have elevated this dish to new heights, while restaurants in Seoul's bustling Gangnam district offer some of the best renditions of this delectable combination. To achieve the authentic taste, it's crucial to use high-quality beef and properly fermented kimchi. For a unique twist, some chefs incorporate gochujang, a Korean chili paste, into the marinade for an extra kick of heat. Whether enjoyed at a bustling eatery in South Korea or prepared at home, Korean BBQ beef with kimchi fried rice is a culinary delight that continues to captivate food enthusiasts worldwide.
