Kale chips have a rich history, originating as a healthy snack alternative. Chefs and health enthusiasts popularized them in the early 2000s, particularly in health-conscious regions like California and New York. The dish gained traction due to its crispy texture and nutritional value, often seasoned with sea salt, garlic, or nutritional yeast. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in farm-to-table restaurants and health food stores. To make perfect kale chips, it's crucial to ensure the kale leaves are thoroughly dried before baking to achieve that coveted crunch. Alternatively, dehydrating the kale at a low temperature is a famous alternative method.
