Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • In a large bowl, separate the kadayıf strands and mix in the melted butter until well coated.
  • Press half of the kadayıf mixture into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the chopped walnuts evenly over the kadayıf layer.
  • Cover the walnuts with the remaining kadayıf mixture, pressing down gently.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of water, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and remove from heat.
  • Pour the hot syrup evenly over the hot kadayıf as soon as it comes out of the oven.
  • Allow the kadayıf to cool and absorb the syrup for at least 1 hour before serving.
  • Cut into squares and enjoy the delicious Turkish dessert!
