Ingredients
- 1 package (16 oz) of kadayıf (shredded phyllo dough)
- 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup of walnuts, chopped
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 cup of water
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a large bowl, separate the kadayıf strands and mix in the melted butter until well coated.
- Press half of the kadayıf mixture into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Sprinkle the chopped walnuts evenly over the kadayıf layer.
- Cover the walnuts with the remaining kadayıf mixture, pressing down gently.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of water, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and remove from heat.
- Pour the hot syrup evenly over the hot kadayıf as soon as it comes out of the oven.
- Allow the kadayıf to cool and absorb the syrup for at least 1 hour before serving.
- Cut into squares and enjoy the delicious Turkish dessert!
