Authentic Japanese Ramen

Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 4 packs of fresh ramen noodles
  • 6 cups of chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup of soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of mirin
  • 1 tablespoon of miso paste
  • 1 cup of sliced shiitake mushrooms
  • 1 cup of sliced green onions
  • 4 soft-boiled eggs
  • 4 slices of roasted pork belly
  • 1 sheet of nori seaweed, cut into 4 pieces

Instructions

  • In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a simmer over medium heat.
  • In a separate pan, heat the sesame oil over medium heat and sauté the garlic and ginger for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add the sautéed garlic and ginger to the simmering broth, then stir in the soy sauce, mirin, and miso paste. Let the broth simmer for 1 hour to develop flavors.
  • While the broth is simmering, prepare the soft-boiled eggs by boiling them for 6-7 minutes, then immediately transferring them to an ice bath to stop the cooking process. Peel and set aside.
  • Cook the fresh ramen noodles according to the package instructions, then divide them into 4 serving bowls.
  • Once the broth is ready, strain it to remove the garlic and ginger, then ladle the hot broth over the noodles in each bowl.
  • Top each bowl with sliced shiitake mushrooms, green onions, a soft-boiled egg, a slice of roasted pork belly, and a piece of nori seaweed.
  • Serve the ramen hot and enjoy!

Japanese

Japanese Ramen has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. Originally introduced from China, it has evolved into a beloved Japanese comfort food. The dish consists of wheat noodles served in a savory broth, often flavored with soy sauce, miso, or pork bone. Each region in Japan has its own unique style of ramen, such as the rich and creamy tonkotsu ramen of Fukuoka or the soy sauce-based shoyu ramen of Tokyo. Renowned chefs like Ivan Orkin have elevated the dish with their innovative takes, while iconic restaurants like Ichiran in Tokyo continue to draw ramen enthusiasts from around the world. For the best ramen experience, visit Hokkaido for its Sapporo miso ramen or Kyoto for its delicate shio ramen. The key to a perfect bowl of ramen lies in the balance of flavors in the broth, the texture of the noodles, and the quality of the toppings. Whether it's the melt-in-your-mouth chashu pork or the perfectly soft-boiled egg, attention to detail is crucial in achieving ramen perfection. For a unique twist, consider trying tsukemen, a style where the noodles are served separately for dipping into a concentrated broth.
