American

The hot dog, a quintessential American street food, has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. German immigrant Charles Feltman is often credited with introducing the hot dog to the United States in the 1860s, selling them from a stand on Coney Island. However, it was Nathan Handwerker, another immigrant, who gained fame with his Nathan's Famous hot dogs, also on Coney Island. Today, the hot dog is a beloved staple at ballparks, backyard barbecues, and food carts across the country. The key to a perfect hot dog lies in the quality of the sausage, the freshness of the bun, and the choice of toppings, with regional variations adding unique flavors. For the best hot dogs, head to iconic spots like Pink's in Los Angeles or Gray's Papaya in New York City. Whether topped with classic mustard and relish or loaded with chili and cheese, the hot dog continues to be a beloved comfort food enjoyed by people of all ages.
