Ingredients
- 4 salmon fillets (6 oz each)
- 1/4 cup honey
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup of honey, 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, and 2 cloves of minced garlic. Set aside.
- Season the salmon fillets with salt and pepper to taste.
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the salmon fillets to the skillet, skin side down, and cook for 4-5 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Flip the salmon fillets and pour the honey garlic glaze over them. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, basting the fillets with the glaze, until the salmon is cooked through and the glaze has thickened.
- In a small bowl, mix 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water to create a slurry. Add the slurry to the skillet and stir to thicken the glaze.
- Remove the skillet from the heat and transfer the salmon fillets to a serving platter. Spoon any remaining glaze over the fillets.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving. Enjoy your delicious honey garlic glazed salmon!
Honey Garlic Glazed Salmon is a delectable dish that has its roots in Asian cuisine, particularly in the fusion of sweet and savory flavors. This dish gained popularity in North America as a result of the growing interest in healthy and flavorful seafood options. Renowned chefs like Nobu Matsuhisa have contributed to its popularity by incorporating it into their menus, elevating it to a gourmet status. The dish is often associated with the Pacific Northwest region, known for its abundant fresh salmon. The key to a perfect Honey Garlic Glazed Salmon lies in the balance of the sweet honey and pungent garlic, creating a caramelized glaze that complements the rich, buttery texture of the salmon. Today, some of the best versions of this dish can be found in upscale seafood restaurants that prioritize using high-quality, fresh salmon and locally sourced honey and garlic. For home cooks, mastering the art of achieving the ideal glaze consistency and not overcooking the salmon are crucial elements in creating a restaurant-quality dish. While the traditional method involves pan-searing or grilling the salmon, an alternative approach is to bake it in the oven, allowing the glaze to caramelize while keeping the fish moist and tender. Whether enjoyed in a fine dining establishment or prepared at home, Honey Garlic Glazed Salmon continues to be a beloved choice for seafood enthusiasts seeking a harmonious blend of sweet and savory flavors.
