  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups diced pineapple
  • 1/2 red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeno, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix together 1 cup of BBQ sauce, 1/4 cup of soy sauce, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1/4 cup of pineapple juice, 1 tsp of garlic powder, 1 tsp of onion powder, 1/2 tsp of ground ginger, and 1/2 tsp of black pepper.
  • Add the pork pieces to the bowl and toss to coat. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
  • Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Remove the pork from the marinade and discard the excess marinade.
  • Grill the pork pieces for 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are cooked through and have a nice charred exterior. Alternatively, you can roast the pork in the oven at 350°F for 2-3 hours until tender.
  • While the pork is cooking, prepare the pineapple salsa. In a medium bowl, combine 2 cups of diced pineapple, 1/2 finely chopped red onion, 1 seeded and finely chopped jalapeno, 1/4 cup of chopped cilantro, and the juice of 1 lime. Season with salt to taste and mix well.
  • Once the pork is done, let it rest for a few minutes before serving. Serve the grilled or roasted pork with the pineapple salsa on the side. Enjoy your Hawaiian BBQ Pork with Pineapple Salsa!

Hawaiian

Hawaiian BBQ Pork with Pineapple Salsa is a mouthwatering dish that combines the smoky flavors of barbecue with the tropical sweetness of pineapple. This dish has its roots in the fusion of traditional Hawaiian cooking with American barbecue techniques. The succulent pork is marinated in a blend of soy sauce, brown sugar, and pineapple juice, then slow-cooked to perfection. The pineapple salsa adds a refreshing and tangy contrast, with its mix of fresh pineapple, red onion, cilantro, and lime juice. This dish is a popular feature in Hawaiian restaurants and luau feasts, where it's often prepared by skilled chefs who have mastered the art of balancing sweet and savory flavors. For the best version of this dish, head to Hawaii, where you can savor the authentic flavors of Hawaiian BBQ Pork with Pineapple Salsa in its place of origin. If you're making it at home, be sure to get the marination of the pork just right, as it's crucial for infusing the meat with the perfect blend of sweet and savory notes. Alternatively, some chefs also grill the pork for a charred and smoky flavor, adding a unique twist to the traditional slow-cooked method. Whether you're in Hawaii or recreating the dish at home, Hawaiian BBQ Pork with Pineapple Salsa is a delightful culinary experience that captures the essence of Hawaiian cuisine.
