Hardtack, also known as ship's biscuit, is a simple and durable cracker-like bread that has been a staple food for sailors and soldiers for centuries. Dating back to ancient times, hardtack was a crucial source of sustenance for sailors on long sea voyages and soldiers on the battlefield. Made from flour, water, and salt, hardtack is baked until dry and hard, giving it a long shelf life. This humble ration has sustained countless individuals throughout history, enduring harsh conditions and providing essential sustenance. Today, hardtack is still enjoyed as a historical reenactment food and can be found in specialty shops and historical sites. Its enduring legacy as a survival food makes it a fascinating part of culinary history.
