Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Place the pre-made pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions, 1 teaspoon of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are caramelized and golden brown, about 20-25 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the bottom of the pie crust. Sprinkle the grated Gruyere cheese on top of the onions.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together 4 large eggs, 1 1/2 cups of heavy cream, and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg. Pour the egg mixture over the onions and cheese in the pie crust.
  • Bake the quiche in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
  • Allow the quiche to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
