Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 pound of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into strips
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 whole wheat or spinach wraps
- 1 cup of diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup of diced cucumbers
- 1/4 cup of sliced red onions
- 1/2 cup of crumbled feta cheese
- 1/4 cup of Greek yogurt
- 1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley
- 1/4 cup of Kalamata olives, sliced
Instructions
- In a large bowl, toss the chicken strips with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, and salt and pepper to taste.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned chicken strips and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until fully cooked and golden brown. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Warm the wraps in a dry skillet for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until slightly toasted and pliable.
- Divide the cooked chicken evenly among the 4 wraps, placing it in the center of each wrap.
- Top the chicken with diced tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, feta cheese, Greek yogurt, chopped parsley, and sliced Kalamata olives.
- Fold the sides of the wraps over the filling, then roll them up tightly, tucking in the ends as you go.
- Slice each wrap in half diagonally and serve immediately. Enjoy!
The Greek Chicken Wrap, also known as a Gyro or Souvlaki, is a popular dish with a rich history. Originating in Greece, this flavorful wrap is a staple of Mediterranean cuisine. It typically consists of tender, marinated chicken, fresh vegetables, and tangy tzatziki sauce, all wrapped in warm, pillowy pita bread. Renowned Greek chefs, such as Yotam Ottolenghi and Cat Cora, have put their own unique spin on this classic dish, elevating it to new heights. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in authentic Greek restaurants in Athens, Santorini, and Mykonos. The key to a perfect Greek Chicken Wrap lies in the marination of the chicken and the quality of the tzatziki sauce. For a twist, some chefs also use lamb or pork instead of chicken, adding a delicious alternative to this beloved dish.
